Burren awarded Foodie Town Region 2015!

Food producers and chefs of the Burren have combined in recent years to create a wonderful narrative and the Burren is emerging as a food destination of distinction.

Food tells the story of the Burren to visitors in a way that is accessible, appealing and delicious. It is a new departure in communication about the region – it tells the story of the landscape through the food of the landscape in the words of those who produce, create and serve the wonderful food offering.

The Burren offers visitors ‘the whole package’: great local meats and seafood, growers, wild foragers, cheesemakers, artisan food producers, brewers, barowners, artisan pizzas, shopkeepers, food storytellers. In addition, great hotels, hostels, guesthouses and glamping units offer fine hospitality to support this engaging food story.

28 food enterprises comprising 54 individual businesses participate in the 'Burren Food Trail’ initiative, seeing each other no longer as competitors but instead collaborators. The extensive list includes Ballyvaughan Farmers Market, Burren Brewery, Burren Fine Wine & Food, Burren Free Range Pork Farm, Burren Gold Cheese @ Alliwee Cave, Burren Smokehouse, Burren Nature Sanctuary, Clareville House Kitchen Garden, Doolin Cave Café, Galway Bay Bakery, Gleninagh Lamb, Gregan’s Castle Hotel, Gus O’Connors Pub, Hazel Mountain Chocolate, Hotel Doolin, Hyland’s Burren Hotel, Kieran’s Kitchen, Kilshanny House, Kinvara Farmer’s Market, Linnalla Pure Irish Ice Cream, Linnane’s Lobster Bar, Neil Hawes Craft Butcher, Sheedy’s Hotel & Restaurant, Stonecutter’s Kitchen, St. Tola Goat Farm, Vasco, Wild Honey Inn and Wild Kitchen.
